Pittsburgh City Council Special Election – 5th District

On July 10, 2022, Corey O’Connor resigned from his position as City Council Member for the 5th Council District in Pittsburgh. Shortly after, the City of Pittsburgh designated the special election to fill his seat to happen along with the General Election on November 8, 2022.

In order to run for Council in this special election—which does not include a primary—candidates are required to submit a nomination or petition to the election office by September 19, 2022. Candidates who seek the Democratic nomination must run in a nomination vote held by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee. A letter of intent and filing fee must be submitted by 3:00pm on September 5th, 2022.

The 15th, 14th and 31st Ward Democratic Committees are planning to hold a candidate forum before the nomination vote in mid-September. More details will come, and we hope to record and publish the video from this forum.

The 5th Council District encompasses Hazelwood, Glen Hazel, South Squirrel Hill, Swisshelm Village, Lincoln Place and Hays—half of the 14th Ward and all of the 15th and 31st Wards.
