15th Ward Democratic Committee Meeting

    • Website is live

    • Nomination Vote for 5th Council District Solidified
      • Council district is all of the 15th and 31st Wards and 23 districts of the 14th Ward
      • September 15, 2022, 4:00–8:00pm at
        Firefighters Union Hall 120 Flowers Ave in Hazelwood
      • Concerns about the majority vote, Sam & County Committee are working out whether a true majority will be needed for a candidate to get the nomination
    • Forum for Council Candidates running for Democratic Committee Nomination
      • Tentative: September 7, 2022, 7:00–8:30pm
        Greenfield School, 1 Alger St.
      • Intended for committee members, will be live-streamed
      • May not have A/C
  • Introductions
    • Committee members went around the room to introduce themselves, their districts, and why we decided to be on committee. Some residents of the Riverview Towers in attendance also shared
  • Vice Chair’s Report
    • Vote Builder Access
      • As a committee, we now have access to Vote Builder, and online tool to make walk or call lists for our districts.
      • If you would like to brave the application yourself, contact Addy with interest, or if you’re in need of a list, reach out to Jen or Addy for assistance
    • Canvass Launch
      • The Canvass Launch with PA Dems at the end of July went well, we had over 17 people show throughout the weekend, and great conversations with our neighbors
    • Inviting Sitting Officials & Candidates to join our meetings
      • Addy asked if people would like to help with reaching out, Michael mentioned it’s a duty he often fills, however, forum has required more of his time and wanted to wait, in part because candidates can take up time in the meeting. Addy expressed an opportunity to request financial support from candidates to help fund some of our outreach.
    • Ward/District Statistics and Goals
      • Addy has statistics on the ward and district’s voting breakdown, and asked if we would like to have individual or collective goals for turnout in November.
      • Questions about what that might look like were asked
      • Addy has statistics for any member who may be interested in seeing changes to the work over time
  • Treasurer Report
    • Current Balance is $1,011.08
    • Some funds will be used for the Forum, split with the other two Wards. Other funds were used for the website and coffee & donuts for the Canvass Launch
  • Sub-Committee Reports
    • Communications Sub Committee Report
      • Have been having bi-weekly meetings
      • Website has been launched
      • Provided the Homepage with Voting Resources
      • Working on
        • Logo for the Ward
        • Postcards to send to the ward
          • Some concern expressed for expense of the postcards, and also a request for potential for hand-delivering or being able to hand-sign them, as was once done
          • Question of whether what is sent from the County Committee is sufficient

      • Focus has been on Forum

  • New Business
    • City Meet & Greet Training
      • Several members joined the Meet & Greet training with positive feedback. Jen has since sent documents for the training
    • Changing the September Meeting
      • Motion & Vote to cancel the meeting, vote failed
      • Motion to change meeting date to September 22, 2022, and new time of 7:00pm
